Background
Schick required a new website as the existing one was outdated and did not accurately reflect the brand’s image. The goal was to develop an engaging online platform that provided comprehensive information about Schick’s range of products. Each product would have its own interactive micro site, and the website would support various marketing campaigns to attract and retain customers.
As Digital Director at JWT Walter Thompson, I led this ambitious project. The new website was intended not only to be the official site for Venezuela but also for Latin America (LATAM). The first stage included Venezuela and Colombia, with plans to roll out to the rest of Latin America. I was actively involved in the conversations and negotiations with the client and stakeholders to ensure the project aligned with their regional goals.
Objectives and approach
Product information hub: Developed a main website serving as a comprehensive resource for all Schick products. Ensured each product page contained detailed descriptions, features, and benefits.
Interactive micro sites: Designed and developed micro sites for each product using Flash to create a dynamic and interactive user experience. Each micro site offered unique animations and interactions, showcasing the distinct features and benefits of the respective product.
Marketing and promotions platform: Integrated a platform within the website to host various competitions and promotions. Developed sections to feature TV commercials and promotional videos, enhancing user engagement and brand visibility. Implemented mechanisms for users to participate in promotions directly through the site.
Educational content: Created content sections dedicated to providing users with tips and best practices for healthy shaving. Included multimedia elements such as videos and infographics to make the content more engaging and informative.
Regional rollout strategy: Planned the initial website launch for Venezuela and Colombia, with the intent to expand to the rest of Latin America (LATAM) in subsequent stages. Engaged in conversations and negotiations with the clients to ensure the project’s alignment with their regional rollout strategy.
Role and responsibilities
The execution of the Schick website involved close collaboration between the design and development teams. As the Digital Director, my responsibilities included:
Overseeing the conceptualisation of the website’s look and feel, ensuring alignment with Schick’s branding.
Leading the design team to create visually appealing and user-friendly interfaces.
Collaborating with developers for the implementation of the website.
Managing client expectations and ensuring all project milestones were met on time.
Conducting design reviews to ensure the final product met the highest standards of quality and functionality.
Participating in conversations and negotiations with the client and stakeholders to plan and execute the regional rollout strategy.
Outcome
The Schick website successfully achieved its objectives by providing a centralised platform for product information, engaging users through interactive micro sites, and enhancing customer engagement through integrated marketing and promotional activities. The initial launch for Venezuela and Colombia set the stage for the website’s expansion across Latin America, reinforcing Schick’s brand presence in the region.
